As the novel Coronavirus continues to rapidly spread across the U.S., Canada, Europe and Australia, celebrities are speaking up on the importance of taking quarantine seriously.
With millions of impressionable fans both young and old, some of Hollywood’s biggest names are taking to social media urging fans to stay home and practice social distancing during these uncertain times.
Here’s what celebrities have to say about the necessity of self-quarantine and the gravity of COVID-19.
Taylor Swift shared a message to fans on her Instagram stories, expressing concern that “things aren’t being taken seriously enough right now.” She urged fans to cancel plans, make social sacrifices, and to remember that just because they don’t feel sick doesn’t mean they’re not contaminating others.
Millennial icon, Hilary Duff, put her generation on blast for continuing to go out and party amidst the crisis, saying in a video posted to Instagram stories, “Go home! Stop killing old people please.”
Ariana Grande took to her Instagram stories to share charities and organisations who desperately need resources during the Coronavirus outbreak as well as to call out fans for being selfish during this time. “You sound stupid and privileged and you need to care more about others,” she wrote.
Miley Cyrus asked fans to consider others before panic-shopping. “There is enough to go around if we take care of one another,” she tweeted. She followed it up with another tweet writing, “NO ONE needs every soup in the store, The more we hoard the more expensive and sparse necessities will become, leaving many without essentials.”
Billie Eilish addressed fans on her Instagram stories today, explaining why it’s so important to isolate. “I did not realise that it’s not about me. So everybody that’s thinking ‘I don’t care if I get it’…it’s not about you it’s about if you do happen to get it…you can transfer that to somebody else who is much weaker and that is completely irresponsible.”
And we couldn’t agree more.
