Met Gala 2022: Best Of Gen Z Fashion

The Met Gala has rightfully returned to the first Monday of May, and peace has been restored in the world of fashion. Known by all at this point as “fashion’s biggest night out”, the Met Gala 2022 celebrates the opening of the New York City Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute’s newest exhibition. This year’s theme is “In America: An Anthology of Fashion,” the second instalment to 2021’s “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion”.

The hosts

Hosting this year’s glitzy affairs will be Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Regina King and Lin-Manuel Miranda. Tom Ford, Adam Mosseri and Anna Wintour will continue their roles as Met Gala co-chairs.

Vogue’s official livestream will begin at 6pm ET, and will be hosted by Vanessa Hudgens, La La Anthony and Vogue editor at large Hamish Bowles.

The dress-code

In mid April, Vogue released the official dress code as white-tie “gilded glamour” referencing ‘The Gilded Age’ in American history. This refers to the period between 1870 and 1900 that saw rapid economic growth and the solidification of New York high society. Think ‘The Age of Innocence’ by Edith Wharton, first-class passengers on the Titanic, and old money families like the Vanderbilts, Astors and Rockerfellers.

Undoubtedly, the most anticipated part of the Met Gala each year is to see the weird and wonderful interpretations of the dress code, so without further ado, let’s take a look at some of our favourite looks of the night.
